Ciro Ferrara Presented As New Coach Of Juventus

The Bianconeri boss is concentrated on lifting the team out of their poor slump, but doesn't know if he will be back next season...

Juventus opted to sack Claudio Ranieri today after going two months without a victory, and they appointed Ciro Ferrara in his place. The former Bianconeri defender was presented to the press by club director Jean-Claude Blanc at a press conference.

"At this moment it's hard to understand if this difficult spell is from something physical or mental," the new coach explained.

"For me it will be important to work on the motivations of the players. Sometimes, it just takes something small to overcome these sensitive moments, just as it does not take much to fall into them."

The Naples-born coach explained that he is ready to take his new job seriously and does not want his Juventus past to influence anyone's judgement.

"I did not have any questions or requests, but made myself available to the club, as I have since 1994. At this time I have been given this chance and took it without hesitation. Obviously there are strong emotions.

"I don't want to be judged for my past, I want to be judged for the work I do on the field."

Meanwhile, the 42-year-old explained that he will continue in his role with the Italian national team alongside Marcello Lippi for the time being.

"Currnetly, there are no commitments, so after June 2 I will be with the national team," he said.

"I have already told Blanc and [sporting director Alessio] Secco that I am comfortable with whoever the next coach of Juve is, whether it be Ferrara or another person. If I am not back [next season] I will continue my jobs in the youth sector and the Azzurri."

Ferrara played for Juventus from 1994-2005, winning several trophies during that time including the Champions League trophy in 1996.
